As the summer vacation season approaches, anxious travelers may want to look into buying a digital camera that will function particularly well throughout their trip. Forbes.com recently named the top ten best digital cameras for the prepared travelers of all levels of skill.
The Canon PowerShot A470 is a small, casual digital camera that is ideal for slipping into a pocket while on the go and is fairly inexpensive at $120, says the article.
The $140 Olympus FE-310 is an 8-megapixel compact camera with a 5x optical zoom lens. The FE-310 also features face detection autofocus and auto-exposure, which help bring out the most important parts of your photos, says the article.
The $300 Panasonic Lumix TZ5 is a compact 10x optical zoom digital camera, featuring image stabilization. Canon also recently introduced its own compact zoom camera, the PowerShot SX100 for $220. It also features a 10x optical zoom and just about matches the Panasonic TZ5 in dimensions, says Forbes.com.
For the more rugged and adventurous consumers, the $375 Olympus 1030SW is a 10-megapixel camera that can be dropped from 6 feet and taken 33 feet under water. It’s crushproof and freeze-proof, and still about the size of a deck of cards, says the article.
The article recommended the Nikon D60 DSLR for more serious photographers. The body only is for $630. There’s also the Canon Digital Rebel XSi DSRL for $800 for the body only. Both cameras are the latest releases from each company, and require more commitment than a point-and-shoot. Travelers will need a case and possibly extra lenses, says the article.
The $365 Fujifilm FinePix S8100fd is for travelers who crave extra power but don’t want to carry around a DSLR and lenses. It features 18x optical zoom, and is relatively large and heavy, says the article.
The $300 Canon S5 IS is another advanced camera with a 12x optical zoom. It is similar to the smaller Panasonic TZ5. What sets this Canon model apart is its versatility and the range of manual controls that allow a seasoned photographer to take charge of the picture and a novice photographer to slowly learn the ropes, says Forbes.com.
The $300 Sony Cybershot H7 is a rival to the Canon S5 IS and Fujifilm S8100fd. It’s also relatively large and offers a 15x optical zoom, says Forbes.com, but it has a high-definition-TV output so that users can connect their camera directly to an HDTV and view a slide show of their trip on the big screen.
