Apple to offer thousands of apps on new iPhone 3G

Once your analog photos are scanned, there are all types of new ways to shar your pictures, including wit the new iPhone 3G.

Apple Inc. announced the iPhone 3G will be available in the United States on July 11. iPhone 3G combines all the features of iPhone with 3G networking, built-in GPS for expanded location based mobile services, and iPhone 2.0 software which includes support for Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync and runs hundreds of third-party applications already built with the recently released iPhone SDK.

  AT&T’s 3G mobile broadband network offers 3G mobile phones download speeds of up to 1.4 Mbps. AT&T’s 3G network is currently available in more than 275 U.S. metropolitan areas and by year-end, the company plans to offer 3G service in nearly 350 metropolitan areas.

  The iPhone 3G will be available in on July 11 for a retail price of $199 for the 8GB model and $299 for the 16GB model in both Apple and AT&T’s retail stores and requires a new 2-year contract. AT&T will also sell iPhone 3G through its direct business sales teams.

  Apple also offered a peek at a few of the thousands of applications expected to be introduced for the iPhone, reports an article in the San Francisco Chronicle. Designed by developers outside of Apple, they range from mobile games to tools for physicians to examine medical scans.

 

  Apple opened the doors for outside developers to create programs for the iPhone in March. Some programs, such as a location-based social networking service from Loopt and a modified eBay application for buyers and sellers to check on their auction item more readily, will be free. Others will charge a fee, at the developer’s discretion. Apple will take a small cut, says the article

  Apple plans to open the Apps Store — an electronic marketplace much like the iTunes music store, but for software — on July 11. Access to the Apps Store will be part of an iPhone software update, which will be free for the iPhone and $9.95 for the iPod touch, the touch-screen iPod, says the article.

The iPhone, which will be sold in 70 countries this year, will also support more languages, including both traditional and simplified Chinese, with the ability to draw the character with a finger.
